HASC Homelessness Initiative Moves to Assessment Stage

HASC is conducting a unique, two-part study on the road to creating new hospital-community partnerships to address the region’s homelessness challenges. 

The effort is modeled on Haven for Hope, a homeless transformation campus in San Antonio, Texas.

HASC members who attended April’s Board of Directors meeting in Santa Barbara heard a vivid account of the campus from its then project organizer Scott Ackerson.

Jenifer Nyhuis is CEO at Vista del Mar Hospital in Ventura. She joined Aurora Behavioral Healthcare in January 2015 and has worked in various departments in three of Aurora’s facilities throughout the country.

Patricia Rives is CEO at Community Hospital of Huntington Park. She has over 20 years of health care management experience and has served as chief nursing officer and chief operating officer at HCA, Dignity and Tenet.

Rathi Ramasamy is HASC’s James D. Barber Administrative Fellow. Her one-year term began June 26. In this role, Ramasamy will explore diverse facets of the health care field, including policy, advocacy, media relations, program management, issue research and more.

Ventura Recuperative Care Debuts Beds for Homeless

July 13, 2017

National Health Foundation’s Pathway Recuperative Care facility opened its doors on July 10 in Ventura County, joining the organization’s two other Recuperative Care facilities in Los Angeles and La Puente — in the San Gabriel Valley.

The dozen-bed home fills a key gap, providing a refuge for homeless patients discharged from hospitals. Located at the county’s downtown Salvation Army, Pathway will make a big difference in the area for individuals experiencing homelessness, attendees said at a June 29 soft opening.

ReddiNet, the emergency medical communications system, has welcomed San Mateo County as its newest network member.

San Mateo joins San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin and Solano counties in Northern California — strengthening emergency response and disaster preparedness in the Bay Area.

Aug. 1 Is Deadline for MCAG Settlement Payout

July 13, 2017

HASC offers a class action settlement recovery service through its partner, Managed Care Advisory Group, or MCAG. MCAG has distributed over $300 million to thousands of customers through this service. Currently, 88 HASC members are enrolled — and many are expected to receive substantial settlement payments beginning in the fourth quarter of 2017.

The next settlement deadlines are fast approaching and include a $180 million settlement connected to Optical Disk Drive products. Additional deadlines arrive in September and October (see below).
