Keven Porter is HASC’s Inland Region representative and advocate. Also in this edition of HASC Briefs, the association welcomes Michael Wall as president and CEO at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster (Los Angeles County) and member presentations are sought for April’s Annual Meeting in Santa Barbara.

Porter Named HASC Advocate for Inland Region

HASC has named Keven Porter, RN regional vice president for the Inland Region (San Bernardino and Riverside counties). Porter has broad experience as a nursing supervisor and administrator. He most recently served as emergency department director at Riverside University Health System – Medical Center, and before that held a similar position for Kaiser Permanente in San Diego. 

Porter will begin Tuesday, Jan. 31. As of that date, he can be contacted at (951) 222-2284 and kporter@hasc.org.

HASC Welcomes CEO

The association welcomes Michael Wall, the new president and CEO at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster (Los Angeles County), a member hospital.

Wall recently served as executive director of Head and Neck Associates of Orange County in Mission Viejo. Before that he served as acting president and CEO at Providence Saint John’s Health Center and its John Wayne Cancer Institute, and as president and CEO at Northridge Hospital Medical Center from 2000–2012.

Call for Presentations: HASC Annual Meeting,
April 5-7, Bacara Resort & Spa, Santa Barbara

In planning the HASC Annual Meeting each year, the association looks to members to share innovative ideas and models for conference breakout sessions. According to members, the most meaningful education comes from this type of peer-to-peer learning. Members are invited to  submit applications to present their hospital’s innovative projects at the 2017 event.

Annual Meeting Early Bird Rates Are Now Available

Early bird rates offering a substantial discount for 2017 HASC Annual Meeting registration are available through Monday, Feb. 6. The discounted rate is $795 for the three-day event. After Feb. 6, registration will be available for $895 per member attendee.

The associate member rate is $995 per attendee.

This year’s Annual Meeting unfolds April 5-7 at Bacara Resort & Spa just north of Santa Barbara.

Becker Accepts Workforce Development Role

Christiane Becker has been named HASC’s new workforce development program manager. She previously worked with the San Diego Workforce Partnership, an organization that funds job training programs that empower job seekers to meet the current and future workforce needs of employers.

As a service to HASC members, Apprise Health Insights will offer an accounts payable (AP) webinar from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30. Kurt Wachtendorf, a national AP consulting manager for Commerce Bank, is scheduled to host the event.

Labor Issues Web Event Is Thursday, Feb. 23

On Thursday, Feb. 23, HASC’s State of the Union: Organized Labor Review Web Seminar will provide the latest on trends and legal developments related to organized labor. The session is designed for hospital and system executives, chief human resource officers, chief nursing officers and other HR specialists and staff.
