Security, Transgender, Other Programs Offered
HASC’s IAHSS Security and Safety Certification Preparation Program begins later this month — with the association’s new Transgender Patient Care Certification Program launching on March 15. Now is the time to enroll for both groundbreaking courses, held at Pomona Valley Medical Center and Good Samaritan Hospital, respectively.

HASC has a range of additional 2018 offerings, including programs that reflect the evolving needs and priorities of contemporary health care. All education programs provide a cost and time-effective way for health professionals and staff to enhance their skills.
The following programs are open for registration.
- IAHSS Security and Safety Certification Preparation Program – Based on International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) training standards, this three-day course builds on basic skills for health care security personnel, including preparation designed to help participants take and pass the IAHSS Basic Healthcare Security Officer Certification exam. Dates: Feb. 17, Feb. 24 and March 3. More information, including registration link, is available here.
- Transgender Patient Care Certification Program – New this year, the three-hour course gives personnel an overview of important nuances and vocabulary for working with transgender patients. The class will be held at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles on March 15. Learn more, and register, by clicking here.
- LEAD Academy and Advanced LEAD Academy – Class dates are scheduled through spring, summer and fall. LEAD Academy Session 2 takes place on Friday, Feb. 23 in Glendale. Visit the LEAD Academy Events page to learn more and to register.
- State of the Unions: Organized Labor Review Web Seminar – This is an important annual review and assessment of the trends and strategies of organized labor. Participate in this computer-based session on Thursday, March 1 from the comfort of your office. Read more, and register, by clicking here.
- Leadership & Charge Nurse: Creating a Culture of Safety – This advanced course is based on research endorsed by The Joint Commission and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement that link improved facility results to a culture of open communication among staff and managers. The one-day course takes place May 18 in Los Angeles and May 23 in Chino. Click here to learn more.
- Human Trafficking: Health Care’s Response to a Growing Issue – Participants will walk away understanding what human trafficking means, common red flags in the health care setting, and how to respond using victim-centered, trauma-informed approach. The program includes an interactive lecture, survivor story, review of evidence-based victim response procedures, and group discussion using case scenarios. The class is scheduled for Thursday, April 26 at the Quiet Cannon Conference and Event Center in Montebello. Participants can register here.
- Hospital Disaster Management Training – HDMT is a two-day, in-depth course presented by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services Emergency Medical Services Agency’s Disaster Resource Center Program — with support from HASC. Training covers hospital surge capacity management for natural disasters and for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive, and other mass-casualty incidents. The course is offered March 6 and 7, May 1 and 2, Oct. 2 and 3, and Dec. 4 and 5. Learn more and enroll here.
