Workgroups in Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties are exploring community paramedicine programs. Also from HASC this week: a new blog from SVP, Health Policy and Communications, Marty Gallegos, which will cover hot health care topics. Register now for the HASC Conference on Aging, Oct. 15, as well as LEAD Academy 2, beginning this fall.

Los Angeles, San Bernardino Counties Further Explore Community Paramedicine

The Los Angeles Hospital Leadership Group discussed at its Aug. 14 meeting community paramedicine, a new and evolving community health based program. A stakeholder group of representatives from San Bernardino convened a workgroup that also met regarding this topic. This program would expand the scope of practice and transport for paramedics who undergo enhanced training as it pertains to specific conditions yet to be determined. Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulance volume to a hospital ED will vary depending on the scope of the local pilot project.

W. June Simmons to Speak at HASC Conference on Aging, Oct. 15

W. June Simmons, founding president and CEO, Partners in Care Foundation, will be the keynote speaker for the 2013 HASC Conference on Aging, Oct. 15, Crowne Plaza Resort Anaheim.

Simmons actively develops programs that meet the mutual needs of patient populations, providers and health care delivery networks to encourage cost-effective, patient-friendly integration of care from hospital to home and community.

LEAD Academy Graduates 35, Announces Level 2 Courses

Congratulations to the 13 graduating participants of LEAD Academy held at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital and 22 attendees of a customized LEAD Academy course at Pacific Hospital of Long Beach. With a number of sold-out sessions, LEAD Academy has become a must-attend course for new managers at health care facilities throughout the HASC region.

Have you registered for the HASC Charity Golf Classic, Oct. 21, at Oakmont Country Club?

This annual event helps bring attention and much needed financial support to the many effective programs designed and implemented by National Health Foundation (NHF). NHF is an independent, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to improving and enhancing the health care of the underserved. Programs include patient safety, recuperative care, teen pregnancy prevention, and children’s health care access.
