Hospitals in Los Angeles Urged to Oppose Waste Shed Proposal

HASC urges hospitals in the city of Los Angeles to contact their local City Council representative to request that hospitals be granted a full exemption under the Bureau of Sanitation’s exclusive waste shed plan. A sample letter of opposition that hospitals can customize, along with suggested talking points, is available from the HASC Los Angeles office.

Healthy Way Enrollment Continues in Los Angeles County

Healthy Way Los Angeles (HWLA) enrollment is at 197,529 as of Aug. 30. Of this total, 66,220 are assigned to a DHS medical home and 72,277 are assigned to a community (clinic) partner home. There are also 59,032 auto-enrolled general relief clients who are being assigned to a medical home.

HWLA enrollment did decrease from July to August due to redetermination as well as issues associated with a software transition.

Board Update from CalOptima

CalOptima recently appointed two new members to its board by the Orange County Board of Supervisors. Peter Agarwal of Citizens Bank in Fullerton was appointed to the Business seat formerly held by Ed Kacic, and Tricia Nguyen of the Vietnamese Community of Orange County clinic was appointed to the Community Clinics seat formerly held by Jim McAleer.

Diabetes Fall Health Summit to Take Place Oct. 25

RSVP today for the Diabetes Fall Health Summit, a partnership presentation by Assemblymember Roger Hernandez, City of Hope, First 5 LA, Kaiser and the California Center for Public Health Advocacy.

The summit will include three components: Healthy People, in which clinical experts will discuss diabetes prevention, research and the latest treatments; Healthy Places, with a focus on how cities are building healthy communities; and Resources for Creating Healthy Communities.
