Recuperative Care Launches Biggest Project Yet, Public

After piloting Los Angeles’s first recuperative care program a decade ago, HASC partner National Health Foundation (NHF) will break ground on a new facility in the city’s Pico Union neighborhood April 18. In partnership with HomeAid Los Angeles and ETCO Homes, NHF will renovate a 100-year-old, currently-vacant sanitarium, transforming it into a healing, trauma-informed recuperative care program, and expanding its total service capacity from 52 to 100 beds. The new center is set to open this fall.

HASC’s 2018 Annual Meeting takes center stage at the Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad, April 11-13.

Registration is still open. Space also remains for the Aviara Golf Club best ball tournament on Wednesday, April 11.

On Friday morning, UC San Francisco’s Maria Raven will share insight gained through the EDIE inter-hospital database. EDIE allows member hospitals to access data on frequent ED utilizers – including prescription records and care histories that are often hard to access across facilities.

On Wednesday, March 7, registered nurses representing four of the six HASC counties took part in the interactive scenarios and group exercises for the association’s Charge Nurse Development course. Participants gathered for a full-day of discussion and training on the role of the charge nurse, reviewing the many qualities and attributes of an effective nurse leader.

Collaborative Effort Offers $25,000 Grants for L.A. County Workforce Programs

HASC is pleased to announce that it has secured grant funding from the South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBWIB), the Los Angeles Basin Region’s Workforce Development Boards, and Anthem Blue Cross to support two RN Specialty Training collaborative projects this year.

Culturally Competent Health Care Improves Service Delivery, Bottom Line

According to the 2018 Healthcare Talent Scan by Health Career Center and the American Hospital Association, as patient populations become more diverse, providing culturally competent care is more important than ever.

As noted in a separate AHA study, “organizations that are culturally competent have improved health outcomes, increased respect and mutual understanding from patients, and increased participation from the local community.”

Implementing culturally competent care may also pay dividends on an organization’s balance sheet.
