National Health Foundation received a $250,000 grant to expand services to homeless patients at the Recuperative Care Center in the San Gabriel Valley. Also in the HASC region this week, about 300,000 Healthy Way LA members are expected to transition to full-scope Medi-Cal benefit coverage as of Jan. 1, 2014. Sign up now for the 2014 Spring Session of the LEAD Academy. HASC thanks member hospitals that met or surpassed their CHPAC goals this year.

Hospitals in Orange County have embraced the Psychiatric Emergency Services model of care for patients experiencing psychiatric emergencies. The California State EMS Authority has approved both community paramedicine pilot projects submitted by the Los Angeles County EMS Agency and developed by the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued an order for health care personnel to obtain the influenza vaccination during the flu season. Also this week from HASC: LA County EMS has partnered with HASC (ReddiNet) and the California Association of Health Facilities to define and activate emergency responder roles for 300 long-term care facilities in the county. HASC, with the California Department of Public Health, sponsored the first in a series of roundtables in the Inland Region focusing on the survey process.

HASC, with the Los Angeles County EMS Agency and area fire chiefs, is looking into next steps toward coordinating a community medicine pilot program. In Orange County this week, HASC filed a formal protest on behalf of OC hospitals against County Health Care Agency plans to use funds from the MSI Hospital Pool to pay for CMS-mandated increases in physician payments. Two hospitals are now live in the Inland Empire Health Information Exchange. Also this week, don’t forget to register for the July 25 program on Strategic Workforce Planning.
