HASC Welcomes Encompass Health, CEO Ebeltoft

June 26, 2020

HASC this week welcomes Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Murrieta as its newest member.

The HASC Board of Directors confirmed Encompass’s membership on June 11.

The facility is a new hospital that opened in February 2020 in the Riverside County community as part of the Encompass Health system. Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Murrieta is an investor-owned hospital and primarily an inpatient rehabilitation facility with 50 beds.

Logistics Victory LA (LoVLA) Partnership
Facilitates Regionwide PPE Distribution

June 12, 2020

Multiple HASC members have related challenges procuring personal protective equipment, or PPE, in recent months. In response, the association worked with Gene Seroka, executive director of the Port of Los Angeles, who Mayor Eric Garcetti appointed chief city logistics officer in response to the pandemic. Seroka established Logistics Victory LA (LoVLA), a resource funded by FEMA to procure and distribute PPE to hospitals in need of it for frontline medical workers.

NHF, Partners Add Housing Option for Homeless

June 12, 2020

In partnership with the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, and a local hotel, National Health Foundation (NHF) is now operating a temporary housing program through Project Roomkey – a statewide initiative that provides temporary housing support to individuals experiencing homelessness to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Database Powers COVID-19 Strategies

SpeedTrack, which provides next-generation data analytics for California health care, has a new option that is helping in the fight against COVID-19.

Many patients, especially those who are elderly or with multiple chronic conditions have elected not to see their physicians during this challenging time (98 percent of practices are reporting substantial decreases in patient volumes, according to the CMA Physician Financial Health Survey, May 2020).

Area Leaders Join National Nurse Recognition

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti this week joined HASC President/CEO George W. Greene and other leaders to say thank you and job well done to nurses battling COVID-19 across the region.

In a video posted here, Garcetti, Greene and six others send messages of support and praise to the region’s nurses. HASC and the mayor’s office produced the video in observance of National Nurses Week — which runs through May 12.

Hospital Donation Effort Welcomes Requests

Jared Giles is CEO at Southwest Healthcare System (SWHS). The position oversees operations at Rancho Springs Medical Center and Inland Valley Medical Center.

Giles joined SWHS in 2012 as chief operating officer at Rancho Springs and was promoted to oversee operations at both Rancho Springs and Inland Valley in 2014. He previously served as associate administrator at Corona Regional Medical Center.

Campaign Reminds Public That EDs Stand Ready

HASC, in collaboration with CHA and the Regional Associations, has developed a toolkit to assist member hospitals and health systems, including their communication teams, in responding to patients’ concerns about seeking care in emergency departments during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The issue is a serious one — with multiple reports documenting heart attack, stroke and other patients postponing care and experiencing negative outcomes.

Alina Moran is President/CEO at California Hospital Medical Center in downtown Los Angeles. Previously, she served as CEO at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan, a 338-bed acute care facility in East Harlem, N.Y., as well as chief patient growth officer for the NYC Health + Hospitals system.
