White Paper Reviews ‘Hospitalist’ History

Hospitalist medicine, still a relatively new area of practice, recently marked its 20th anniversary.

The term refers to doctors who focus on work in hospitals, instead of any single medical specialty.

Nov. 14’s HASC Charity Golf Classic raised close to $40,000 for National Health Foundation’s work addressing health-related disparities in underserved communities. 

Over the past decade, the fundraiser has brought in more than $600,000 for NHF programs like Pathway Recuperative Care — which provides housing for homeless patients upon their release from acute care. Other NHF initiatives include Health Academy, which teaches students about nutrition, and a Teen Parenting program.

HASC/CHA Release Ballot Positions Summary Sheet

November 1, 2016

With the California Hospital Association, the Hospital Association of Southern California backs state ballot Proposition 52, which would extend a hospital fee program that draws state matching funds to support Medi-Cal services. Tested. Tried. True. Vote Yes on Prop. 52.

The associations also endorse propositions 55 and 56, and oppose propositions 53 and 64.

Golf Classic Tees Off Monday, Nov. 14

October 12, 2016

The HASC Charity Golf Classic at Rancho Cucamonga’s Red Hill Country Club will take place on Monday, Nov. 14.

Funds raised at the tournament benefit National Health Foundation’s work supporting underserved communities. To date, the autumn event has contributed more than $600,000 towards the foundation’s mission.

Participants will experience Red Hill Country Club’s 1920s-era course by architect George C. Thomas, Jr.

Working Group Promotes Medi-Cal Accessibility, Sustainability

Medi-Cal now covers one in three Californians. But do one in three Californians have access to primary care, preventative care or anything other than emergent care?  Not really.  Simply put – the costs of care are not adequately covered. Safety-net providers and traditional medical providers, now taking on an even greater share of the Medi-Cal population, are struggling to adapt.

Person-Centered Care Project Seeks Partners to Explore Initiative Benefits

August 24, 2016

HASC, in collaboration with the California Hospital Association and the Hospital Quality Institute, is leading a Person-Centered Care Initiative, funded by The SCAN Foundation. The goal of this three-year initiative is to assist provider communities (hospitals and their primary care, post-acute, and community-based organization partners) to deliver person-centered care throughout the continuum.  Such support is especially critical for older adults with chronic conditions and functional limitations.

2016 Annual Meeting Photo Gallery

More than 500 attendees, including 53 sponsors, made HASC’s 2016 Annual Meeting a stellar success.

The meeting took place April 13-15 at the Bacara resort in Santa Barbara County. Next year’s HASC Annual Meeting is also scheduled at Bacara, for April 5-7, 2017.

The 2016 theme, Uber-Bold: Moving Health Care Beyond Incremental Change, was summed up by industry innovator Glenn Steele in an opening address.

Golf Fundraiser Reaches Green

More than 70 golfers joined over a dozen sponsors at Oct. 5’s HASC Charity Golf Classic, where they enjoyed mild, early-autumn weather while raising more than $50,000.

Over the past decade, the fundraiser has brought in $605,000 for the HASC-affiliated National Health Foundation, NHF Board Chair Jess Womack said at the event.

It is my pleasure to announce that Martin Gallegos (Marty) has accepted my offer to be HASC’s Senior Vice President for Health Policy and Communications.

For the past 11 years, Marty has been the Senior Vice President/Chief Legislative Advocate for the California Hospital Association (CHA).  From 2001-2002 he was the Director, California Office of the Patient Advocate (Governor Gray Davis appointment).
