HASC, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, is pleased to partner with the Chapman Institute to offer training to become a Certified Wellness Program Coordinator, Level 1. The two-day session runs May 2-3 at the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce in downtown Los Angeles.

Wellness Conference Is Set for July 13-14

HASC’s Health Care Provider Wellness Conference, which includes attendees and speakers from across the state, runs July 13 and 14 at the Wyndham Anaheim Garden Grove hotel.

The annual event is designed to inform HR and wellness professionals of the latest research and practices in the field. It’s also a great opportunity to network with colleagues.

California Congressional Action Program Runs May 7-10 in D.C.

Despite the recent failure of the majority party’s health care bill in Congress, efforts to alter or transform the Affordable Care Act are expected to continue. Working with California Hospital Association, the Regional Associations, including HASC, remain focused on advocacy for a framework that supports hospital operations on a sustainable basis.

Annual Meeting Countdown Is On

March 28, 2017

The 2017 HASC Annual Meeting gets underway on Wednesday, April 5 with a shotgun-start golf tournament at Sandpiper Golf Club. Other Santa Barbara events on Wednesday include a Meet & Greet with HASC president and CEO George W. Greene, Esq. at 3 p.m. and a special-session HASC Board Meeting on innovative approaches to homelessness at 4 p.m.

A full slate of events are scheduled for Thursday, April 6, with the event wrapping on on Friday morning.

Communities Lifting Communities Initiative Takes Aim at Health Disparities

March 27, 2017

HASC with HC2 Strategies, Inc. and the Public Health Alliance of Southern California will launch Communities Lifting Communities, a partnership intended to reduce health disparities and improve community health across Southern California, on Friday, June 16.

The kick-off meeting will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Metro Headquarters Building opposite Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. The meeting aims to bring together health care leaders to align collective goals and identify key intersections to help the initiative effect positive change.

Annual Meeting Golf
Tournament Has Room to Swing

March 15, 2017

Space remains for this year’s Annual Meeting Golf Tournament at the seaside Sandpiper Golf Club adjacent to Bacara Resort & Spa. 

The event tees off shotgun style at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5.

Sandpiper Golf Club’s 18 holes front a bluff top that offers dramatic views of the Pacific Ocean.

With a seaside links layout, the course at Sandpiper has been rated in the top 25 public courses in the country by Golf Digest. Designed by William F. Bell, it debuted in 1972.

HASC Welcomes Chief Executive

March 15, 2017

Walt Dannenberg is medical center director at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System. In the role, he is responsible for administrative and clinical operations at the Tibor Ruben VA Medical Center and at five community-based outpatient clinics and a community resource and referral center (CRRC). Dannenberg previously served as associate director at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System and the VA Puget Sound Health Care System.

Association Services Director
Day Moves to Hospital Council

March 15, 2017

Shauna Day, who served as HASC’s association services director for almost two years, has accepted a Hospital Council of Northern & Central California regional vice president position. Day started Monday at the council’s Fresno office. She’ll serve the Central Coast and Eastern Sierra regions along with Fresno, Madera, Kern, Tulare and Kings counties. 

During her time at HASC, Day contributed to the successful growth of the Endorsed Business Partner program and has increased member engagement by establishing the Hospital Operations Committee.

March Workforce Advisory Meeting
Rescheduled for Wednesday, April 12

March 15, 2017

The Workforce Advisory Meeting, originally scheduled for Tuesday, March 14, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 12 at HASC’s offices in downtown Los Angeles at 515 South Figueroa Street, Suite 1300. The meeting will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The meeting is free, and lunch will be provided. Pre-registration is required.

A five-hour seminar, offered Monday, April 10 in Los Angeles and Tuesday, April 11 in the Inland Empire, is designed to provide hospitals with critical information on the Board of Registered Nursing and Healthcare Professionals’ Intervention Program and Diversion Program.

Rifkin recently served as CEO at Kindred Hospital Westminster and before that, held administrative roles in facilities at Tenet Healthcare and HealthSouth. He is a seasoned administrator with more than 35 years in the health care field.

March Legislative Day Addresses
Important Juncture for Health Care

CHA and the Regional Associations invite members to the 2017 Health Policy Legislative Day on Tuesday, March 14 and Wednesday, March 15 in Sacramento. With the new presidential administration’s discussions of changes to the industry, it’s never been more critical to ensure that the state’s hospital leaders are heard.

In addition to legislative visits on March 15, CHA will host a breakfast reception with legislators followed by an education program with Gov. Jerry Brown tentatively scheduled to deliver a keynote address.
