Oct. 3 Webinar: Workplace Violence Prevention Training

A free webinar taking place noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3 will review and highlight workplace violence prevention training courses offered by new HASC Endorsed Business Partner HSS Inc. Seth Karnes, HSS’s education and training manager, will lead the webinar and provide an overview of three of the security firm’s class offerings: TEAM Essentials, TEAM Advanced and TEAM Instructor.

HSS’s training products fulfill new Cal/OSHA workplace violence training requirements that went into effect earlier this year.

HASC Briefs Moves to New Email Distribution System
Take steps to ensure continued delivery

This week, HASC is switching to a new email platform to deliver HASC Briefs to readers’ inboxes. The new system will allow HASC to update member information more quickly, easily and accurately. It will also provide a foundation for enhanced member services, including enabling members to self-select their communications in the near future.

HASC, Hospital Council Select HSS as Workplace Violence Prevention Training Partner

HASC and the Hospital Council of Northern and Central California (Hospital Council) have exclusively endorsed HSS Inc. of Denver, Colo. for workplace violence prevention training. The endorsement will help member hospitals comply with California Division of Occupational Safety & Health (Cal/OSHA) standards that went into effect April 1.

MCAG Settlement Deadlines Are Extended

September 27, 2017

HASC, with its strategic partner, Managed Care Advisory Group (MCAG), offers a class action settlement recovery service with no up-front cost to members. MCAG has distributed more than $300 million to thousands of customers via the service. The first round of payments to enrolled hospitals is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2017 (depending on date of enrollment).

If you are one of the 100-plus member hospitals already enrolled, you do not need to sign the attached agreement or sign up on the website. MCAG will continue to file claims on behalf of your organization.

Security, Safety Certification Class Is Set for September

August 22, 2017

Designed for health care safety and security officers, September’s three-day, eight-hour course is based on International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety, or IAHSS, curriculum. It takes place Sept. 9, 16 and 23 at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

The course teaches basic training and skills for health care security officers. Students will apply tools and techniques learned to take and pass the IAHSS Basic Healthcare Security Officer Certification exam.

Workforce Development Initiative Supports Hospitals’ Access to Trained Employees

HASC’s workforce development initiative is a multi-pronged effort to address workforce needs across the region — especially in areas impacted by a shortage of trained and qualified employees.

Its most prominent program is the ongoing Specialty RN Shortage Initiative, which is creating connections between nurse education programs and area hospitals. Other programs include the Slingshot Initiative, which supports training for in-demand skills, and Health Career Center, an online job board that reaches almost 3 million health care professionals.

July 20’s Hospital Fee Program Status Report, co-hosted by the California Hospital Association and HASC in Los Angeles, drew close to 100 attendees eager for the latest on California’s Medi-Cal reimbursement for hospitals.

Led by Anne McLeod, CHA’s senior vice president for health policy and innovation, the presentation included a detailed picture from Amber Ott, CHA’s vice president for strategic financing initiatives.

“The bottom line is that the fee program is one the highest-priority issues for members right now,” said George W. Greene, HASC president and CEO.

HQI Earns National Quality-Improvement Leadership Award

The American Hospital Association (AHA) has named Hospital Quality Institute (HQI) the recipient of the 2017 Dick Davidson Quality Milestone Award for Allied Association Leadership. Announced on July 12, the award is given to state, regional or metropolitan hospital associations that demonstrate leadership and innovation in quality improvement and contribute to national health care improvement efforts.
