Orange County Notches Advocacy Accomplishments

November 14, 2018

In Orange County, HASC is advocating to renew the SB 1100 intergovernmental transfer agreement for systems with at least one DSH hospital. Over the three-year period, the agreement will result in additional funds totaling approximately $5.2 million in new, unobligated revenue for CHOC Children’s, KPC Health, Prime Healthcare and Tenet.

Kennedy Accepts Annual Meeting Speaker Invite

Former congressman Patrick J. Kennedy is son of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy. 

Planning continues for HASC’s 2019 Annual Meeting this May 1-3 at La Quinta Resort and Club near Palm Springs. Mental health services advocate Patrick J. Kennedy is now a confirmed speaker for Friday, May 3.

Kennedy, a former U.S. congressman, also plans to attend the event’s strolling dinner on Thursday, May 2.

Aurora Vista del Mar Marks Post-Fire Rebuild

October 17, 2018

A pair of buildings at Aurora Vista del Mar Hospital succumbed to the Thomas Fire on Dec. 4. The facility offers behavioral health services to Ventura County residents.

The Thomas Fire razed two structures at Aurora Vista del Mar Hospital, cutting its capacity by 75 percent. On Tuesday, the Ventura County facility reached a long-awaited landmark — opening a refurbished building with 25 patient beds.

HQI Annual Meeting Enrollment Remains Open

Respect, Reliability, and Resilience is the theme of the 2018 Hospital Quality Institute Conference — taking place Oct. 28-30 in Huntington Beach. Space for the event remains and enrollment is open. 

Presenters include Jim Bagian — an anesthesiologist, engineer and former NASA astronaut — with a keynote on sustaining a culture of patient safety. Also scheduled are former NASA astronaut Yvonne Cagle, MD, HASC President/CEO George W. Greene, and HQI VP Julia Slininger.
